An inspection found that staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest staff failed to properly observe a patient and nearly let them strangle herself with a pillowcase in a hospital bathroom.

Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health added 1257 new cases of coronavirus to the state s overall total, which is now 1,190,102. 54 new COVID-19-related deaths reported Wednesday pushes the overall state number to 26,925 since the beginning of the pandemic. Right now, there are 1427 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 320 of whom are in the intensive care unit.
Another Pennsylvania college is requiring students provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination before returning for the fall semester. Franklin & Marshall College says studentw will have to provide a scanned copy of their completed vaccination cards to the Student Wellness Center by August 1st. The school says it will accomodate students who have approved medical or religious exemptions.
Authorities say the 14-month-old Catasauqua boy had dangerously high levels of nicotine and cotinine in his bloodstream. They determined his 25-year-old mother was slipping him vape oil while he was being treated for a breathing problem.
Driver now charged with homicide in crash that killed woman and her 1-year-old son

Lazarus Roldan, 31, initially faced accidents involving death and related charges in the Allentown crash.
On Tuesday, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced he was adding homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, and other charges.
Roldan was arraigned in the new case and bail was set at 10% of $50,000 for the new charges. An attorney has not yet entered an appearance for him in the case, according to court records.
Police were called at about 2:44 a.m. Jan. 1 for a crash in the 1200 block of South Eighth Street in Allentown, and found the wreckage of a BMW and a Trailblazer.
