UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Six incumbent trustees and five new members were elected or appointed to serve on the Penn State Board of Trustees today (May 7).
University alumni elected Alvin de Levie and Steve Wagman as alumni trustees, and re-elected incumbent Brandon Short. Delegates of agricultural societies elected Donald Cairns and re-elected incumbent Chris Hoffman.
Robert Fenza and Mary Lee Schneider were re-elected as trustees representing business and industry. Julie Anna Potts was re-elected as an at-large trustee, while Nicholas Rowland was elected as the board’s academic trustee.

The Livestock Regulatory Protection Act, introduced by Senators John Thune (R, S.D.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D, Ariz.), would prohibit the EPA from issuing permits for carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, water vapor, or methane emissions from livestock production. Livestock producers are working to improve efficiency and reduce emissions from their operations,” said Senator Thune. “They should not be subject to onerous regulations and costly permit fees for their animals’ emissions, which could ultimately lead to higher food costs for consumers.

Additional Probes, Lawsuits Announced on Toxic Elements in Baby Food
New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced a probe into whether baby food contains toxic elements such as arsenic and other metals. In a press release, James said, ““Baby food manufacturers have a legal and moral obligation to ensure the safety of their products, and provide peace-of-mind to the parents who rely on their products every day. Through this probe, I am committed to protecting the health and wellness of the next generation.”
D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine filed a lawsuit against Beech-Nut Nutrition Co., alleging “that Beech-Nut’s deceptive and misleading advertising violated the District’s consumer protection laws and misled parents that its baby food underwent the most stringent testing and was fully safe for babies when, in fact, the food contained high levels of toxic heavy metals.” Racine is quoted as saying, “No company should profit by illegally deceiving parents abo
