A handful provincial government money is being distributed to help Sault Ste. Marie tackle the mental health and addiction problems the community faces but some advocates say its not enough.
Sault Ste. Marie MPP Ross Romano and Minister Michael Tibollo, minister of mental health and addictions, announced a little more than $350,000 to be shared by community stakeholders focusing on the areas mental health and addictions issues.

A former Northern Ontario man, now living in the United States, has made a huge donation to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) in support of its social accountability mandate to attract more physicians to the North.
The $1.2-million donation is from Dr. Hugh Robertson, emeritus professor of radiology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and clinical professor of radiology at Tulane University Medical Centre in New Orleans.

An historic $1.2-million donation will help combat health inequality in Northern Ontario.
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine received its largest-ever donation, from a radiology professor in Louisiana who’s concerned about the shortages of doctors in the North.
Dr. Hugh Robertson says he has good memories of practicing in Northern Ontario, and wants to support the medical school.
Some of the money will go to setting up a new one-of-a-kind Center for Social Accountability to tackle issues that create unequal access to health care in the North like poverty, water insecurity and climate change.
