On May 18, Chancellor Philip Rogers released guidelines clarifying regulations on COVID-19, after North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper lifted many restrictions on May 14. While I am thankful for Rogers removing the social distancing requirement, gathering limits and the outdoor mask mandate, I am still puzzled that ECU has kept the indoor face mask requirement. “Face coverings are still required on campus indoors for faculty, staff, visitors and students, regardless of vaccination status because of the continued prevalence of COVID-19 and the low vaccination rate in Pitt County and the region,” the guidelines said.
