The Nisswa Fire Department BBQ competition returns Saturday, May 22, along with the annual Kids Touch a Truck event at the fire hall.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can see and interact with Nisswa fire trucks as well as vehicles from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, North Memorial Ambulance, Crow Wing County Sheriff and the city of Nisswa plow truck and police cars.
There will be a live kitchen fire demonstration and hot dogs served by the Nisswa Lions Club.
At 3:30 p.m., the second annual Nisswa Fire Department BBQ contest will feature competitors who turn in ribs to be judged. The top three chosen in blind judging will take home money and trophies.

While the cause of the fire Monday night and Tuesday morning at Green Valley Bean remains under investigation, Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander said foul play is not suspected.

The bean processing plant, located on State Hwy. 34 west of Park Rapids, close to the Hubbard County Line, erupted in flames around 8 p.m. on May 17. By the following afternoon, the building was reduced to a heap of twisted metal and charred debris, with a faint scent of smoke lingering on the air.
