The crash, involving multiple cars and a motorbike, happened on Spring Gardens just before 9.35am this morning.
Eyewitness have reported a heavy emergency service presence in the area.
The helicopter has landed near to the junction of Springs Gardens with St Mary s way.
Video footage taken at the scene shows it landing in a nearby car park.
BOTH the M6 and M56 have been closed by crashes this evening. Emergency services have shut the M6 southbound between junction 20 at Lymm and junction 19 at Knutsford following a serious collision. Cheshire Police and the North West Ambulance Service are currently in attendance at the scene. Congestion is reported back to junction 21 at Woolston, with 10-minute delays on the M6 northbound as a result of vehicles slowing to look at the accident on the opposite side. One lane of the carriageway was closed initially, before the remainder of the highway was shut shortly after 4.30pm. Diversions are in placed via the M56 eastbound and the A556 soutbound.
