Commencement is beginning for Sheridan College graduates – Sheridan Media

Dr. Triiblee is president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District. Jen Crouse, vice president of student affairs and executive director of the Sheridan College Foundation, gave the commencement address, sharing her story of the car accident that put her in a wheelchair, and almost ended her life, at age 16 and how she re-found her “inner fire.” Commencement speaker Jen Crouse. She urged the graduates to find their own inner fire when their situations get tough. In an interview with Sheridan Media before the graduation ceremonies, Crouse said excitement over the in-person graduation was really, really high this year. Graduation ceremonies were canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant shutdown of activities across the state and nation.

Thompson has dedicated his life to serving his country – Sheridan Media

Allen Thompson, Sheridan County sheriff and this year’s Sheridan College Distinguished Alumni, has dedicated his life to serving his country and his community with professionalism and excellence. That’s according to Dr. Walt Tribley, president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District, who introduced Thompson during Saturday’s commencement exercises. Dr. Tribley said Thompson was involved in the campus community while serving in the Wyoming National Guard, earning recognition as the National Soldier of the Year in 1994. Thompson was hired by the Sheridan Police Department in 1998 and graduated with honors from the Wyoming State Law Enforcement Academy, earning the Academic Excellence Award. While with the Sheridan Police Department, he was a patrol officer for two years then was promoted to sergeant.

SEEDA announces a board membership opportunity – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan Economic and educational Development Authority is currently looking to fill the vacant member-at-large seat on their five-member governing board.  The purpose of the SEEDA is to allow for collaboration between the City of Sheridan and the Northern Wyoming Community College District, “on the financing and development of capital projects, workforce training, or job creation initiatives in Sheridan County, for purposes of economic and educational development of the Sheridan Community.” Members of the SEEDA Board must be residents and qualified electors of Sheridan County. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and a brief bio to SEEDA Executive Director Robert Briggs by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14.  Questions may be directed to Briggs at 307-675-0814 or rbriggs@sheridan.edu.

NWCCD graduations to be live this weekend – Sheridan Media

After having been canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, graduation ceremonies will be in-person at both the Gillette and Sheridan College campuses this year – and excitement is high. Wendy Smith, who’s an associate vice president with the Northern Wyoming Community College District, said that’s what she’s seeing. Smith said with approval of both state and local health officials, the two colleges will be able to relax safety guidelines slightly. She said those attending the events will be asked to social distance, but masks will be optional. Events at Sheridan College will start at 8 a.m. Saturday with the pinning ceremony for the nursing program students. That will be in Kinnison Hall in the college’s Whitney Center for the Arts. At 10:30 a.m., also in Kinnison Hall, a pinning ceremony will be held for dental hygiene students.
