Three of Georgia’s Democratic members of Congress visited the Atlanta University Center Friday to announce funds from the American Rescue Plan would soon come to some of Atlanta’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Reps. Hank Johnson and Nikema Williams joined Sen. Jon Ossoff on the lawn at Clark Atlanta University in front of a bust of civil rights activist W.E.B. DuBois.
Ossoff told school officials and students they’ll soon receive millions from the American Rescue Plan recently passed by Congress. Clark Atlanta University will get $16.4 million. Morehouse college is set to receive $7.8 million. Spelman will get $7.4 million. The ARP has allocated almost $400,000 to Morehouse School of Medicine.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - Five Horizons, a healthcare group focused on HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, has opened a healthcare office on the campus of Stillman College .
People working in that partnership say it’s already making a difference
“Talking about sex and safe sex practices isn’t something that a lot of people are comfortable with. But we know that it’s happening and so that’s why we’re here,” said Derrick Steverson, the director of community partnerships for Stillman College.

ATLANTA, May 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ INROADS, Inc. a global solutions provider for addressing community disparities and talent pipeline issue challenges partners with Clark Atlanta University (CAU) to take their student career development to the next level.
The two storied organizations launch the Corporate Development Initiative to give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students intense exposure to the skills and qualifications needed to have successful corporate career experiences. The program is envisioned as a pre-internship component to INROADS award-winning student leadership program.
In April, an HBCU combine with NFL, CFL and XFL scouts was held at The University of Alabama-Birmingham, after it was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Sanders noted that these HBCU players should be competing alongside those from other schools.
“We should be right there,” Sanders said. “We shouldn’t have a separate combine. That doesn’t make sense to have a separate combine. I was just trying to get us in, but now that I’m involved, and I’m in it, we don’t want separate. We want together.”
Sanders, an eight-time Pro Bowl player, is the head football coach for Jackson State University, one of the largest HBCUs in the country.
