From KC of the Montana Outdoor Radio Show:
For all the Dateline and Cold Case shows I ve watched over the years, I don t think I ve ever seen them mention anything like this. It s basically a GoFundMe type of page that s been started with the hopes that donations will help identify skeletal remains found in the Lolo National Forest and possibly solve a case.
According to a Facebook post from the Missoula County Sheriff s Office - a hiker found human remains in Welcome Creek Wilderness while backpacking in 2014. The Granite County Sheriff began an investigation and confirmed the person was a male backpacker, about six feet tall, and most likely between the ages of 30-45. But they weren t able to confirm an ID. The case has remained open and now the call is out to help fill in the missing pieces for the backpacker that was found but never identified.

Mysterious 2014 Human Remains Case Still on Missoula Radar
Over six years later, authorities still seek answers to an unsolved case and an unidentified victim. And they continue to ask for our help.
Our friends at KECI TV did some updated reporting on the cold case last week. There are some interesting comments on their Facebook page from readers who are obviously intrigued by what might have happened, speculation on who the deceased might be, etc.
The mystery centers on an unidentified male backpacker, whose remains were found in the Bidwell Gulch area of the Welcome Creek Wilderness, on August 11, 2014. The Welcome Creek Wilderness lies in the Rock Creek drainage about 25 miles east of Missoula. This 28,135 acre wilderness measures about nine miles by seven miles. The ridges are so steep and the valleys so narrow and uneven that even finding a flat tent spot can be tough in much of the area. Most of the land is heavily timbered.
