HUMBOLDT, Kan. – “Typically we get billed about 35 thousand dollars a month. We’ve been advised that the estimate for February’s cost will be 1.6 million dollars,” explains Humboldt City Administrator Cole Herder.

“Our customers can’t stand that kind of a bill in one month. It just would bankrupt everybody,” says Herder. “That’s just unheard of. Our annual budget for the gas supply is about 375 thousand dollars. And we budget above what we think we’re gonna need.”

CASPER, Wyo Deadlines have been extended for Wyoming residents to get assistance with home heating energy bills through the Department of Family Services. The state agency announced Tuesday that applications for assistance through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) for the 2020-2021 season will be accepted until March 31.
“We extended the application period for this season only for two reasons,” says LIEAP manager Brenda Ilg. “First, we expect there to be continued cold weather, and we are seeing some increases in home heating costs. Second, we are still feeling the economic impacts from the Coronavirus Pandemic.”
