Uddhav Thackeray to address state at 8:30 pm today after SC strikes down Maratha reservation in govt jobs, educational institutes

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will address the state at 8:30 pm today (Wednesday). This comes after the Supreme Court, earlier in the day, struck down the reservation in government jobs and educational institutions for the Maratha community brought in by the state government in 2018.
A five-judge Constitution Bench of the top court, comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, L Nageswara Rao, S Abdul Nazeer, Hemant Gupta and Ravindra Bhat pronounced its judgment today. It said that that people from the Maratha community cannot be declared as educationally and socially backward community to bring them within the reserved category. It added that there was no valid ground to breach 50 per cent reservation while granting Maratha reservation.
The Nationalist Congress Party and its Nationalist Welfare Trust have donated Rs 1 crore each to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) for Covid-19 and the upcoming vaccination programme, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced .
Move to help Maha Vikas Aghadi government provide free vaccination
All Maharashtra Congress MLAs will be donating one month salary to the Chief Minister relief fund as a commitment to the free vaccination decision taken by the State government.
Announcing the decision, Congress legislative party leader and State’s Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Thursday said that he will be donating his one year salary for the fund. In addition, ₹5 lakh on behalf of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) will be donated, he said.
“Maha Vikas Aghadi government has taken an important decision to provide free vaccination to all the citizens of the State, even though the State is facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis. It is our humble attempt to help the State government by making meagre financial donations to the relief fund,” said Mr. Thorat. This will amount to nearly ₹2 crore.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 28 (ANI): The Maharashtra Government on Wednesday announced to provide free COVID-19 vaccination to all citizens aged between 18-44 years to combat the pandemic.
In a tweet, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Office (CMO), it informed, Today, the Cabinet under the leadership of Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has decided to provide free COVID-19 vaccination to all the citizens of Maharashtra aged between 18-44years. #BreakTheChain
Under phase three of the vaccination drive, everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from May 1, the Central government said on April 19. It also liberalised the vaccination drive to allow states, private hospitals and industrial establishments to procure the doses directly from manufacturers.

Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi partners and the opposition BJP are locked in a political slugfest over the summoning by the Mumbai Police of a pharma company director for inquiry into a Remdesivir stock of 60,000 vials.
After the Bruck Pharma director Rajesh Dokania was questioned by the police, the Leader of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis, who rushed to the police station, accused the state government of playing cheap politics. It now appears that the stock had been arranged by the BJP for distribution in Maharashtra.
