With the Minnesota Vikings once again looking at some significant issues along the offensive line, they have used their first selection in the 2021 NFL Draft on someone they hope can anchor the line for a long time.

With the 23rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Christian Darrisaw, an offensive tackle from Virginia Tech.
Darrisaw was the starter at left tackle for the past three seasons for the Hokies, playing in 35 games during that time. He had an outstanding season in 2020, garnering First-Team All-ACC honors. He projects to step in immediately at left tackle for a Vikings’ team that has been looking for stability at the position for what seems like forever.

Edwin Thompson started a new job with the challenge of having less than two weeks to prepare the Georgetown University baseball team for the 2021 season.
“We had no fall practice,” the Hoyas’ first-year coach said. “I got hired in September and I didn’t meet the kids until March 27. That means they had no practice, either. It’s been, needless to say, different, (with) obviously, COVID-19 challenges.
“It was different, but it has been awesome. I mean Georgetown is a special place and I am really fortunate to be the head coach and I am excited to be leading the team more than anything.”
Father, son take award for research paper into risk biases

Arun Muralidhar and Sid Muralidhar were named co-recipients of the Investments & Wealth Institute Journal Research Award.
The father-and-son team won the 2021 award for their article, Behavioral Finance in Investing: The Existence and Importance of Investment Tribes and Risk-Preference Diversity, confirmed Devon Coquillard, spokeswoman at the Investments & Wealth Institute.
The article, which appeared in the Journal of Investment Consulting in 2020, explores how groups of individuals within investment management organizations may exhibit similar risk tendencies.
The paper utilizes a methodology that identifies risk biases and how they can influence and impact decision making.

Members of Montgomery County, Md.’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) are using an artificial intelligence-based system to find COVID-related items in Twitter posts that may call for action.
As part of research by a team from Brigham Young University (BYU), George Mason University (GMU), the University of Texas (UT) at Austin and Virginia Tech University, CERT volunteers dubbed the Virtual Emergency Response Team (VERT) are tagging tweets based on relevance to help train the AI to recognize data that indicates a situation that emergency response may want to know about.
Under a grant from the National Science Foundation to study human-AI teaming in emergency response, the researchers had been studying how the AI platform, called CitizenHelper, would work during natural disasters.
