Regional blocs, corridors to improve market access

Bangladesh has been at the centre of initiatives such as the BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement, the BCIM Corridor and the BIMSTEC alliance, which envisage greater market access and create an enabling environment for rapid economic development.
The economic corridors and blocs Bangladesh Bhutan India and Nepal (BBIN), Bangladesh China India and Myanmar (BCIM) and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) were initiated to ease business processes among the participating nations.
India and Bangladesh bonhomie attained a new height with the participation of the 122-member strong tri-services contingent from Bangladesh in this year’s Republic Day parade on 26th of January. The contingent was comprised of soldiers of the Bangladesh Army, sailors of the Bangladesh Navy and air warriors of the Bangladesh Air Force. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today emphasised on the implementation of the (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) BIMSTEC Master Plan for transport connectivity for the greater benefit of this region.
The connectivity can play a vital role in accelerating the pace of economic development of the BIN region, he said while speaking with Tenzin Lekphell, the newly appointed BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) secretary general, at the former s office today.

Countries in South Asia need to collaborate regionally and Prime Minister Narendra Modi s government has set a brilliant example by providing vaccines to India s neighbours, a Bangladeshi minister said on Thursday.
At a webinar, Bangladesh s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam said the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was failing to live up to the expectations and expressed optimism over the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
Alam also said Bangladesh has received consent from India to set up a hydroelectric power plant in Nepal and his country also has a proposal for Bhutan.
