Parry Sound down to one active case of COVID-19

Only one active case of COVID-19 remains in Parry Sound as of Tuesday.
The local health unit added one recovery and no new cases of COVID-19 in the district.
According to the health unit’s data, Monday’s new case was found in Nipissing, not Parry Sound.
One person, 19 years or younger, tested positive in Nipissing and no new recoveries were added bringing that district to five active cases.
North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says its done 305 COVID-19 tests in the last day.

Public Health Ontario has reported 1,969 new cases of COVID-19 today.
For the second day in a row, the total new cases reported today include a data catch-up from Toronto Public Health as it migrates to the provincial data system.
The province is also reporting 2,132 new recoveries and 36 deaths in its latest update, including 19 people who were residents at long-term care homes.
The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, two people between 40 and 59 years old, 10 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 23 people over the age of 80.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit reports one new case of COVID-19 since Friday.
The case was reported in Nipissing District and involves a person aged 20 to 39 who contracted the case through close contact of a case.

The person is isolating.
There are now five active cases in the two districts, two in Nipissing and three in Parry Sound District.
Since the pandemic was declared in March, there have been 191 cases reported in the region. Of those, 113 – including the case reported on the weekend – have been in Nipissing, while 78 – including one death – were reported in Parry Sound District.

One of the new cases involves an individual aged 20 to 39 who contracted the virus through community transmission. The health unit did not identify where the person resides.
The other is a person aged 60 to 79. The source of the virus is under investigation and, again, the health unit did not identify where the person resides.

The Mattawa Snowmobile Club wants to see the facts supporting the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit’s decision to discourage travel by closing Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trails in the district.

“I feel bad for the locals who can’t get out and ride the trails,” says club president Mike Martel. “We would have liked to be on the same level as surrounding health units. Everyone else is open.
“People complain about snowmobilers, but they don’t think twice about standing in a lineup at Walmart or Costco.”
