China will be the “only winner” if Australia commits to a net zero emission by 2050 target, according to Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.
Last night Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivered a presentation at the Business Council of Australia where he mapped out a path to meet the ambitious net zero emissions goal.
Mr Canavan told Sky News China will never “sacrifice their own growth, their own development and their own industry” to meet climate targets.
“China will keep on emitting as we’ve seen last year despite their lip service to net zero emissions and we’ll be left behind”.

Shadow foreign minister Penny Wong has told Sky News China must abide by the agreed upon trade rules, and insisted the opposition supports the government in its pursuits to ensure compliance from Beijing.
It come as Trade Minister Dan Tehan confirmed to Sky News there has been a minister-to-minister communication freeze between Canberra and Beijing for three years.
Senator Wong said the news was “very disappointing” especially for exporters whose industries and jobs have suffered as a result of the current impasse.
Trade tensions escalated over the past 12 months resulting in high tariffs, blockades, and bans on several of Australia’s key export industries.
