In letter to Hammad Azhar, SAPM Tabish Gauhar calls for structural reforms in energy sector - Pakistan

Dawn/File Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Energy and Petroleum Tabish Gauhar, in a letter addressed to Energy Minister Hammad Azhar, has urged that strategies be chalked out and holistic and structural reforms made to address energy sector challenges. The four-page letter titled Beyond The Fire Fighting – Proposed Strategic Workstreams In The Energy Sector , a copy of which is available with Dawn.com and dated July 23, 2021, was also sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar who is also the chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) and petroleum and power secretaries, in deviation from the usual practice as such letters are only sent to the relevant minister or secretary.

APP ISLAMABAD: Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum on Monday, the Petroleum Division said that out of a total Rs790 billion on account of the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC), various consumers owed approximately Rs473bn in arrears. The Senate body meeting, presided over by committee chairman Senator Abdul Qadir, discussed overall foreign investment in the country’s oil and gas sector. The committee was informed that out of a total of about Rs790bn worth of GIDC, an amount of Rs321bn had been deposited in the federal treasury as of April 2021 while Rs473bn was still recoverable from various parties.
