The Marietta High School Academic Excellence Awards ceremony will be posted at 6 p.m. today at the MHS Tigers Facebook Page.
Marietta High School will also release a link to the ceremony to the awarded students via email.
Marietta High School will be holding its annual Academic Excellence Awards ceremony virtually at 6 p.m. today.
Thirty-eight senior students from Marietta High School and the Washington County Career Center who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be recognized. The students will also honor teachers, coaches or parents that they felt academically inspired by and will talk about why they selected them.

Career and Technical Education is celebrated nationwide during the month of February. The Washington County Career Center joined in the celebration by hosting an Annual Career Fair for the county’s sophomores. In addition, the Washington County Career Center Board of Education honored outstanding contributors to career and technical education as part of the celebration.
During its March meeting, the board recognized Chuck Gorrell, Jim Kerns, Jim Krotkiewicz, and Darrell Veyon, for their substantial contributions to the technical education programs at the Career Center – High School and Adult Technical Education.
In 2004, Chuck Gorrell became an integral part of Adult Technical Training by helping to continue to develop the Industrial Maintenance training program. He worked in maintenance in various capacities and brought his wide background and experience to the Career Center upon his retirement of over 38 years of service with Momentive (formerly Union Carbide

The Washington County Career Center honors its April Students of the Month, Montana Brown, Katana Felter, and Zoe Graham.
Montana Brown is a Belpre senior enrolled in the Auto Mechanics program. He is the son of Alan Smith and Kelli Brown of Belpre and the grandson of William and Ann Kidder of Belpre.
At the Career Center, Brown is a member the SkillsUSA youth organization. He has been on the Career Center’s Honor Roll, Merit Roll and the Energy Bus Driver program, for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals.

The 2021 Frontier High School Prom Queen candidates are Shayleigh Barrows, Mariah Bowersock and Katana Felter. The Prom King candidates are Logan Haught, Evan Cunningham, Jacob Gutberlet, Breckin Hoff and Andrew Shapley.
¯ Shayleigh Barrows is the daughter of Tammy and Tim Barrows. Shay has participated in the College Credit Plus Program and is a varsity athlete, float committee member, Student Council member, and was on the Homecoming Court. She is undecided on her future plans.
¯ Mariah Bowersock is the daughter of Mandy and Zach Bowersock. She plans to study physical therapy at Washington State Community College. Mariah is enrolled in courses required for the Ohio Academic Diploma with Honors while participating in the College Credit Plus Program. Belpre, Marietta, Fort Frye, Frontier, Warren, Washington and Waterford High Schools are allowing students to have prom this year with some COVID restrictions.
With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing, Belpre, Marietta, Fort Frye, Frontier, Warren, Washington and Waterford high schools will be holding proms this year.
Belpre High School’s prom will be May 1 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Parkersburg Art Center. The advisor of the prom committee is Katie Pence.
Belpre superintendent Jeff Greenley said prom attendants must wear facial coverings everywhere they go. Greenley said the students are thrilled to be having prom this year.
