Man gets nearly 6 years in Washington County cab robbery
Authorities say Josiah Johnson was shot in the buttocks during a struggle with the driver.
A 19-year-old man faces 70 months in prison after a cab robbery last year that resulted in him accidentally getting shot, according to the Washington County District Attorney s Office.
On Sept. 14, 2020, prosecutors say, Josiah Johnson requested a cab from Gresham to Beaverton. When the driver arrived, he noticed Johnson was acting strange after the driver asked him to pay for the ride up front.
When Johnson pulled out cash to pay for the ride, the driver immediately noticed a counterfeit bill, so he asked Johnson to give him his cellphone as collateral until the ride was finished, according to the DA s Office. At one point during the ride, Johnson reportedly asked the driver if he had personal protection. The driver told Johnson that he did not have a gun, officials said.
