Camper Fire in Riverside Leads to Arrest of Lone Tree Man

A camper fire in Riverside Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a Lone Tree man on drug-related charges. Riverside Fire Chief Chad Smothers says they were called to 3070 Highway 22 shortly before 10 a.m. to find smoke coming from a camper in the Casey’s General Store parking lot.  He says the owner, 51-year-old Shane William Hauser, had been able to contain most of the fire in the camper’s living area with the use of three fire extinguishers he had on hand and then firefighters finished putting the fire out within 20 minutes. Smothers says there were no injuries and damage was estimated around $1,000. He says a malfunctioning LP gas heater caused the fire.

Seven arrested in Washington County drug sweep CHERRYFIELD The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has arrested seven people in an ongoing sweep that began Jan. 12, according to MDEA Commander Scott Pelletier.  “For the past month, MDEA agents initiated an investigation after identifying a New Bedford, Mass.-based drug trafficking network that was trafficking significant quantities of cocaine, cocaine base and heroin/fentanyl for distribution in Hancock and Washington counties,” Pelletier said. “During the investigation agents revealed out-of-state dealers would travel to Maine and recruit local drug distributors to increase their customer base. The out-of-state dealers distributed their drugs from local residences in exchange for money and/or drugs. Agents conducted undercover purchases of illegal drugs from the group.”
