SPOKANE, Wash. The gates opened on State Route 20 North Cascades Hwy on Wednesday afternoon, allowing drivers to make trips over the North Cross.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said on Twitter that they had a line up of excited travelers ready for their first trip over North Cross. They added that there there are limited services due to most facilities being closed, encouraging people to plan ahead.
The highway closed on Friday, November 13 last year due to heavy snowfall and risk of avalanche.
Even though the highway had been cleared by April 29, WSDOT said on its website that crews had to repair damage caused by snow and debris through the avalanche pathways, including signs, guardrails and pavement.
