Photo by VnExpress/Hoang Anh. The national aviation authority has proposed widening a runway and building more taxiways and aprons on the southern Con Dao Island to further tap its tourism potential. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has said in a document sent to the Ministry of Transport that the upgrade would enable the airport to handle large jet aircraft and increase the airport’s capacity from 400,000 to two million passengers a year in 2030.

The provincial government has expected to put the flight suspension in place before 5:00 pm Saturday. Only the helicopter route from Vung Tau City, the capital of the province, to Con Dao and vice versa will be maintained.
