News 12 cameras were given rare access to the NYPD s Police Academy in Queens.
NYPD Chief Of Training Kenneth Corey tells
News 12 s Katie Lusso that all NYPD recruits go through six months of training at the academy before being sent out in the field.
Corey says in those six months, recruits go through a total of 913 hours of training: 269 hours focused on academics, 150 hours on physical tactics, 105 hours on firearms and 28 hours on driver training. The additional 361 hours are used for additional add-on trainings and presentations.
HANNIBAL â Officers at the Hannibal Police Department spend numerous hours training for different scenarios. The complexity of that training took a significant step forward recently when HPDâs MILO Force Options Simulator went into service.
âEveryone involved thus far seems excited by the opportunity to have something like the MILO system under roof,â said Police Chief Lyndell Davis. âThe ability to utilize the system as the department desires is greatly advantageous.â
According to Davis, the new device will help his officers to be better prepared for any number of situations they might be confronted with when out in the field.
