The Delhi Police on Friday said that 44 people, including a man who attacked a police officer with sword, have been arrested for violence at Singhu border.
Earlier in the day, tensions arose at the Singhu border after a group of people, who claim to be locals, barged into the protest site of farmers, and vandalised it. The farmers retaliated and stones were pelted by both sides. Police used tear gas and batons to resolve the situation.

Farmer leaders have alleged that Punjabi singer and actor Deep Sidhu instigated protestors and led them to the iconic Red Fort. Head of Haryana unit of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Gurnam Singh Chaduni has accused Sidhu of misguiding protestors. It was during this mayhem that some protestors waded into the Red Fort and hoisted a flag other than the Tricolour.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday said that over 25 criminal cases had been filed and 19 arrested for the violence during the farmers’ massive Republic Day tractor rally.
Earlier in the day, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) and Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan announced their decision to withdraw from the ongoing farmers’ protest, a day after the violence.
