A St. Lawrence Secondary School student who loves math has earned what’s considered to be the most-coveted science and engineering scholarship in the country.
Affaan Ali, in Grade 12 at the Cornwall school, recently learned he was selected from thousands from across Canada to be one of 100 recipients of the Schulich Leader Scholarship, valued at $80,000, but likely priceless in that it could help open a lot of doors in his future.

“The experience has been amazing,” said Ali, who’s just 17 and not certain of what career path he’ll eventually follow – but he acknowledges “(the scholarship) does change a lot of things.”
