Montgomery: State lawmakers have inched closer to approving a ban on so-called vaccine passports that would require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access services from a business or state agency. Universities could still require students to receive a vaccine; however, there would be exceptions for vaccines approved for “emergency use” by the FDA, as is the case with all three COVID-19 vaccines given in the United States thus far. The idea of vaccine passports is to have a document that shows a person has been inoculated against COVID-19. Here s how some states plan to respond to the lifting of the F.D.A. pause on Johnson & Johnson
As of Saturday, Wisconsin has administered 2.2 million Pfizer vaccine doses, 1.7 million Moderna doses, and 165,570 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention on Friday said vaccine providers in the U.S. should continue to use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The U.S. had paused using the one-shot vaccine for 11 days while the agencies looked into a link between the shot and a rare blood-clotting disorder.
The agencies determined the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risks of keeping it off the market. Out of nearly 8 million who received the vaccine, 15 people have developed the condition and three have died, USA TODAY reported.
