The new strain of the coronavirus causes the disease COVID-19. Symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath. A full list of symptoms is available on the Centers for Disease Control website.
In severe cases, pneumonia can develop. Those most at risk include the elderly, people with heart or lung disease as well as anyone at greater risk of infection.
For most, the virus is mild, presenting similarly to a common cold or the flu.
Anyone who thinks they may have the disease should call ahead to a hospital or clinic before going in for a diagnosis. Doing so gives the staff time to take the proper precautions so the virus does not spread.

MADISON, Wis. - The number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin rose by 795 Friday, April 23, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported, for a total of 593,789.
Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reported 13 new deaths Friday, with a total of 6,738 deaths in the state.
Of the positive cases, 28,865 have required hospitalization (4.9%), while 577,684 have recovered (97.3%), making for 9,099 active cases (1.5%).
More than 2.8 million have tested negative.
More than 3.4 million have been tested.

The pace of any change in the status of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Sheboygan County is slow for the time being, with new cases and recoveries staying close enough to keep active cases in a narrow range since last falling below 200 on February 15th. Active cases reached a low point this year of 131 on March 5th and 9th, and were tabulated at 164 today. 17 recoveries offset the 15 new confirmed cases since Tuesday. Hospitalizations were steady at 10.
The updated 2-week data and trajectories from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services shows Sheboygan at a “High” activity level, with 204.3 cases per 100,000 persons, and no significant change in trajectory. And over the past 7 days, the average percent positive by test for Sheboygan County was 4.9%, down from 6.2% a week previous.
