Wisconsin vaccination rate increases amid high demand

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin’s COVID-19 vaccination rate increased relative to other states over the past week and demand continues to far exceed supply, with roughly one dose delivered to vaccinators for every four requested.
Last week alone, nearly 300,000 doses were requested by Wisconsin vaccinators, but the federal government delivered only about 77,000 doses, Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, said Tuesday. That’s about 27% of the amount requested.
“I know it sometimes feels like a broken record to hear us saying over and over again, ’We need more vaccine, we need more vaccine, we have people who want it, we have vaccinators ready to give it,’” Willems Van Dijk said. “But that is the bottom line: We need more vaccine.”
Wisconsin partners with Microsoft on vaccination registration
The state of Wisconsin is getting assistance from Microsoft, as it sets up an online platform for people to sign up for coronavirus vaccinations.
The system is expected to launch in 10 communities February 15th. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services State plans to use those communities to test the software prior to rolling out the new system statewide.
People visiting the site will answer questions about age and profession to determine eligibility. Those who aren’t will go on a waiting list and be notified when they become eligible.

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Tuesday, Feb. 2 discussed the latest developments regarding the state s COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
MADISON, Wis. - The number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin rose by 1,095 Tuesday, Feb. 2, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported, for a total of 544,260.
There have been 5,937 deaths in the state, with 40 new deaths reported by state health officials Tuesday.
Of the positive cases, 24,460 have required hospitalization (4.5%), while 520,325 have recovered (95.6%), making for 17,809 active cases (3.3%).
