The spokesperson said more than 75% of Prevea s employees are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Health care providers across the state have begun implementing vaccination requirements for their workers as the delta variant of the coronavirus spreads and Wisconsin hospitals are seeing an increase in patients with severe complications from COVID-19. Most of those patients have been unvaccinated.
There have been 239 new, positive COVID-19 cases reported in Brown County over the last seven days out of 1,072 tests for a 22.3% positive test rate, according to Wisconsin Department of Health Services data. The county has averaged 34 new cases per day over the last week.
The current flare-up in coronavirus cases in Rock County and elsewhere is largely due to the prevalence of the virusâs delta variant. According to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, delta cases in the state on Aug. 3 reached 373, which amounted to an increase of 150% over the previous week.
One of the reasons for the spike in overall COVID-19 numbers is the low rate at which people are getting vaccinated. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported that from Jan. 1 to July 22, 98% of COVID-19 cases were among those who were unvaccinated.
While the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing someone from contracting the virus, so-called breakthrough cases are extremely rare. Nick Zupan, epidemiologist for the Rock County Health Department, said only 100 vaccinated local residents contracted COVID-19 since the vaccine was rolled out.
They were reported as follows: 13 in each Burnett and Douglas counties; 11 in each Price, Rusk and Sawyer counties; 10 in Washburn County; five in Bayfield County; four in Ashland County; three in Iron County; and two in Taylor County.
Statewide, an additional 6,274
cases were reported in the last week, DHS said, bringing the total to 625,314 Wednesday.
The seven-day average of new cases rose from 478 on July 28 to 902 on Wednesday. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An increase in the seven-day average of positive cases indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is going up, according to DHS.
