Several of those who participated in peaceful August protests in Kenosha after the police shooting of Jacob Blake say they felt the response from law enforcement tasked with protecting the Capitol fell far short of the force they faced while demonstrating on the streets of Kenosha and in other cities in support of Black Lives Matter.
Tear gas, rubber bullets and fists were used by police in both situations. But the immediate responses from the majority of law enforcement present, according to those who protested in Kenosha and other activists, show disparate treatment of Black Lives Matter marchers compared to the pro-Donald Trump mob that broke into one of the countryâs most important buildings, forcing legislators and their staffs to fear for their lives.

Will Connely knows the ins and outs of Boscobel Bowl & Banquet, after all, he’s been cooking there since he was 21 years old. So when longtime owners Jan Richter and her brother Stacey Karsten decided to sell the popular Boscobel establishment on July 1 26 years to the day since they bought it from Quent and Gloria Hurtz, they couldn’t think of a better buyer.
“He’s been around here a longtime, he’ll be fine,” Stacey said.

In Wisconsin and other states across the nation, the rollout of coronavirus vaccine so far has been slower than promised under the federal Operation Warp Speed initiative. Efforts to pick up the pace are complicated by decisions on who should be given vaccine priority along with supply and distribution issues.
Health care workers in Wisconsin began getting shots Dec. 14 and vaccination of nursing home residents has started. Both are in phase 1a, a priority group established by state and federal advisory groups.

Officials with the Belmont Police Department recently announced that a registered sex offender has been placed in housing within the village. According to the department’s report, 34-year-old Brian Holzer is living at a residence on South Mound Avenue. In 2017, Holzer was convicted in Lafayette County Court on a charge of possessing child pornography. He is under supervised release through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and must adhere to strict guidelines – including electronic monitoring. Belmont Police remind residents this notice is not intended to cause fear – but rather that an informed public is a safer public.
