SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Many people struggle to pay processing fees for housing applications when they have little to no income. Democratic state lawmakers want to create a special grant program to provide assistance for anyone left in that situation.
Rep. Anne Stava-Murray (D-Downers Grove) wanted to create the Emergency Solutions Grant program to help families who don’t make enough to have a place to call home. The plan could prohibit landlords, mortgage companies, and rental property owners from charging administrative fees on housing applications submitted by people using this assistance.
Assistance previously came from the Emergency Shelter Grant program which was created through the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing Act.

But now Shelter Solano is ready to start the project with a ceremony Thursday to break ground.
“We are thrilled to be able to fulfill the original vision for this location to serve the most vulnerable homeless families and individuals in Solano County,” Concord-based Shelter Inc. Chief Executive Officer John Eckstrom said in a statement.
But the facility will be more than a place where residents of the shelter will go to eat.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Mayor Eric Garcetti broke into song today during a virtual celebration for the grand opening of the West Valley s first Bridge Housing site, which is meant to provide transitional housing to people experiencing homelessness.
The Willows, in Canoga Park, opened to residents on Feb. 1 and will provide them with resources including case management, space for animals and larger quarters for couples. The 75-bed facility is the first Bridge Housing facility to accommodate opposite-sex couples.
The facility was named “The Willows for the Tongva nation, which “nurtured the site and used to construct their homes out of willow branches, according to Los Angeles Family Housing s Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, who said her organization received the blessing of Tongva Chief Anthony Morales to build the facility.

The Torres Shelter says it is increasing its capacity to allow more guests, but people will first have to go through a quarantine process.
The city of Chico just recently ramped up enforcement against overnight camping at parks.
Just a few days ago lower Bidwell Park was filled with encampments but on Friday the park was completely empty.
