DRDO supplies Oxygen Cylinders For Telugu States May 02, 2021, 14:34 IST
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced that it will arrange oxygen cylinders from its resources to meet the urgent requirement of oxygen supply at hospitals and medical institutions in various parts of the country.
100 oxygen cylinders were transported from DR APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad to Secunderabad Cantonment and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) on Saturday. DRDO provided another 100 oxygen cylinders to the Andhra Pradesh Government.
These high-pressure seamless cylinders are of 46.7 litres water capacity each and can be pressurised up to 150 bars. These cylinders are certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards and are approved by PESA (Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organisation). Each of these cylinders can store 7,000 litres of oxygen.

A schoolteacher from Karol Bagh, Tanuja, 53, had tested positive for Covid on April 16 and rushed to the hospital after her blood oxygen level plummeted to under 70.

Kerala will now get 150 tonnes of oxygen
The Union government has increased the medical oxygen allocation for Kerala from 99 tonnes to 150 tonnes a day, said R. Venugopal, Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives, Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) for Kerala and Lakshadweep, and nodal officer for medical oxygen supply.
The revised oxygen supply plan is also meant for other States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Centre’s order said the revised allocation was in keeping with the rise in demand for medical oxygen.
Distributes free of cost to State Governments
Reliance Industries has ramped up its production of medical-grade oxygen from 0 to 1,000 MT per day, constituting more than 11 per cent of the country’s total medical grade liquid oxygen production.
This oxygen is being provided free-of-cost to several State Governments to bring immediate relief to over 1 lakh patients daily.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, Reliance has supplied over 55,000 MT of medical-grade liquid oxygen across the country.
In addition to the production of high-quality medical-grade liquid oxygen, the other challenge has been to quickly overcome the transportation bottleneck in the supply of liquid oxygen to various parts of the country. This necessitated increasing the loading capacity for its safe and quick transportation.
