Two Ventura County high schools named California Distinguished Schools

View Comments Oak Park and Rancho Campana high schools were added to the 2021 California Distinguished Schools list announced Wednesday. The list, originally put out by the state Department of Education in March with 102 schools, was updated with an additional 121 schools, including the two Ventura County schools. The schools are named based on performance and progress on state indicators specified on the California School Dashboard, a statement from state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond says. The Distinguished Schools program is meant to recognize schools primarily for closing the achievement gap and/or achieving exceptional student performance. Oak Park High, in the Oak Park Unified School District, and Rancho Campana High in Camarillo, part of Oxnard Union High School District, are the only schools from the county on the list this year.
