NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said 39 Indian sailors stuck in China will be brought back soon as diplomatic talks are on with the neighbouring country.
Two cargo vessels with a total of 39 Indians on board have been on anchorage in Chinese waters as they were not allowed to unload their cargo though some other ships have managed to do so. Diplomatic talks are going on for this successfully. Our seafarers will come to India soon, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in reply to a query about sailors being stuck in China for the last seven months during Cabinet briefing.

THE Indian government’s decision to informally tell airlines not to fly Chinese nationals into the country is not merely a precautionary measure aimed at checking the spread of Covid-19. There is more to it than meets the eye, even as China had suspended all special air operations from India with effect from early November, citing the rising number of coronavirus cases on Vande Bharat Mission flights. The eight-month-old border standoff has impacted India-China dealings in myriad ways. Last week, the External Affairs Ministry expressed concern over two cargo vessels with a total of 39 Indians on board being on anchorage in Chinese waters for months as these were not being allowed to unload their shipment, though some other ships had managed to do so.

Government informally asks airlines not to fly Chinese nationals into country: Report
The government has informally asked all airlines not to fly Chinese nationals into the country, a report in Time of India said. Back in November, China had barred the entry of foreign nationals, including India, with valid visas and residence permit. It cited the pandemic as a reason behind its decision to stop foreigners from entering into the country. The Chinese Embassy/ Consulates in India will not stamp the Health Declaration Forms for the holders of the above-mentioned categories of visa or residence permits, Chinese Embassy had said.
