New Delhi/Guwahati, Feb 15 : Ahead of the state assembly polls, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to Assam along with a Japanese delegation on Monday said that the potential is immense for India s collaboration with Japan in this northeastern state.
IANS last week was the first to report that the Minister had ratcheted up a mega plan for a strategic partnership with Japan in the poll-bound Assam.

Assam Minister says Rahul’s focus on CAA misplaced
Assam’s Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Congress party’s anti- Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) pitch for the upcoming Assembly polls is out of sync with what the people want to hear from their leaders after a year of having suffered COVID-19. The party was more “2019 than 2021” in its outlook, he said.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar who is in Assam today attending various functions said: Assam has long been the bridge between India and the world to our East.
He pointed out, the advent of colonialism and the subsequent emergence of nation-states had effectively disrupted the seamless connection between eastern India, Assam and the world to our East.
GUWAHATI: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar offered prayers at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, Assam on Monday during his visit to the poll-bound state.

State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present with him during the visit.
Later in the day, the External Affairs Minister is set to attend various programmes in the state.
Last week, Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah had visited Assam. Prior to that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched several development projects in the state on February 7.
