Colombo (News 1st); External Affairs Minister of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called on several political leaders in Sri Lanka prior to concluding his official visit to the country.
On Wednesday (06) Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, separately.
Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Prime Minister Rajapaksa discussed strengthening sectors of mutual benefit.
The Opposition Leader had thanked the Indian External Affairs Minister for supporting the construction of houses during the tenure of the previous government.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention to be held in virtual format on January 9, while Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi will be the chief guest and deliver the keynote address, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs and provides an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Indians, the MEA said in a statement.

Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar said that the talks followed up on the progress made since the virtual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussed further strengthening our close cooperation in so many areas, following up on the progress made since the Virtual Summit with PM @narendramodi, he tweeted.

India is willing to prioritize Sri Lanka when supplying the COVID-19 vaccine now being produced by India, the External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar told President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The Indian Minister who arrived in the country yesterday (05) for a two-day visit, called on President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat today (06), President’s Media Division said.
Commenting on the future course of action to control the COVID-19 pandemic President Rajapaksa stated that Sri Lanka would like to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine, which is being produced by India, following an accurate assessment of the need for treatment.
