India ready to give its COVID vaccine to Sri Lanka – External Affairs Minister Jaishankar tells President

India is ready to give priority to Sri Lanka when supplying to other countries the vaccine now being produced by India to treat COVID 19 virus, the External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar told President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Arrived yesterday in the country for a two-day visit, the Indian Minister called on President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat today (6).
Commenting on the future course of action to control the COVID 19 pandemic during the ensuing discussion President stated that Sri Lanka would like to obtain the COVID vaccine, which is being produced by India following an accurate assessment of the need for treatment.

Colombo: India on Wednesday assured Sri Lanka that it can depend on the South Asian giant as a reliable partner in the region. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Colombo on a three-day visit, said India has always underlined unity and territorial integrity of the island nation.
“India has been strongly committed to unity, stability and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. India will be a dependable and reliable partner,” Jaishankar said at a joint press briefing along with his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Gunawardena.

COLOMBO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) India s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who is on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, said on Wednesday that Sri Lanka had expressed interest in accessing COVID-19 vaccines from India.
In discussion with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Jaishankar said his country had agreed to give priority to Sri Lanka when it starting exporting the vaccines to other countries.
During their meeting, both President Rajapaksa and the Indian minister agreed to further enhance bilateral relations.
Following his discussion with the president, Jaishankar met with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena during which both agreed that despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, high level contacts between the two countries were maintained and indeed strengthened during the past year. Enditem
