Department of Education names 7 Massachusetts students as 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars

Seven Massachusetts high schoolers are among 161 students from across the nation who have been named U.S. Presidential Scholars.
The honor from the U.S. Department of Education recognizes high school seniors for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.
The Massachusetts scholars are:
Arden E. Lloyd of Amherst Regional High School (U.S. Presidential Scholar in Arts)
Andrew Harris of Middlesex School in Concord (U.S. Presidential Scholar in Arts)
Caroline Curran of Sturgis Charter School in Hyannis
Kevin Wen of Somerville High School
Seven Massachusetts high school seniors have been selected as 2021 US Presidential Scholars, a prestigious honor bestowed to just 161 students nationwide, the US Department of Education said Thursday.
2 Idaho high school seniors honored as 2021 Presidential Scholars
BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) – Students from Moscow and Nampa have been named U.S. Presidential Scholars for 2021, Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra announced Thursday.
“Congratulations to Jaston B. McClure of Moscow High School and Katherine E. Hebdon of Skyview High, who have been selected among 161 high school seniors nationwide for the 57
th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars,” Superintendent Ybarra said. “I’m proud to have these outstanding young Idahoans representing their schools, their communities and our state on the national stage.”
The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects high school seniors each year based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. TRUMBULL, CT Rachel S. Brooks, of Trumbull and a senior at Christian Heritage School, was named a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar, one of two Connecticut students to receive the prestigious honor, according to Gov. Ned Lamont and Connecticut Acting Commissioner of Education Charlene Russell-Tucker.
U.S. Presidential Scholars are recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields, and it is considered one of the nation s highest honors for graduating high school seniors.
The other Connecticut recipient is Greenwich High School senior Colin B. Speaker.
