Lancaster County Sheriff s Office Renews Accreditation

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office receives accreditation for the fourth time from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission. The voluntary program is based on nearly 200 professional standards and around 25% of the commonwealth’s law enforcement agencies recieve accreditation. Departments renew their accreditation every four years and the Sheriff’s Office received 100% compliance during this renewal. Police Chase Through Westmoreland County Ends In Two Arrests Westmoreland County Sheriff C. O. Balderson reports a vehicle pursuit initiated by law enforcement authorities in King George County on Thursday, April 01, 2021 ended in a foot pursuit with the arrest and multiple charges of two individuals in the Town of Montross by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office. 32 year-old Jamal R. Austin, of Temple Hills, MD, was charged with one count each of transporting a controlled substance into the commonwealth with intent to distribute, possession of stolen property, felony eluding, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and two counts of damage to property. Mr. Austin was also charged on three outstanding warrants from King George County.

Lower Burrell man faces assault, escape charges after hospital brawl

A Lower Burrell man arrested last month on assault charges faces more charges this week stemming from a brawl at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Matthew D. Hoessler, 23, was charged with aggravated assault and attempted escape after police said he fought with Westmoreland County sheriff’s deputies and hospital police when he was taken to the emergency room of the Harrison hospital Feb. 23. According to court documents, Hoessler had been arrested by Vandergrift police that day on charges that he assaulted two people in the borough. Because he had a pre-existing injury, Westmoreland County Prison officials required he be seen by a doctor before being brought to the jail.
