Killer: An image of the new coronavirus, which continues to claim lives across the world. THE number of hospital patients in north Cumbria who have died from Covid-19 has now risen to 351. According to the latest Government data, in the 14 days up to Wednesday of this week, the NHS trust which runs The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven has reported 37 covid fatalities. But the death rate has slowed in recent days. There were 13 deaths reported in the last seven days for which data was available, compared to 24 in the previous seven days. The hospital covid patient death figure reported by the NHS trust which runs Furness General Hospital in Barrow and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal - as well as hospitals in Lancashire - yesterday stood at 479.
South Lakes mum raises £25,000 for hospitals

A South Lakes mum has raised more than £25,000 for hospital emergency, babies and children’s departments in the region.
Mum-of-two Louise Phillips who works with the occupational therapy team at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, held events for the Royal Lancaster Infirmary’s emergency department and the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust’s neonatal unit and children’s ward.
Her virtual Christmas fair, held via social media platform Facebook while she was on maternity leave, raised £12,500.
Louise, 39, of Kendal, said: âI got the idea for the Christmas fair one day when I started thinking, weâre in the middle of a pandemic – surely I can raise some funds for the NHS!
