Election Day arrives for sales tax proposals in Cotter, Harrison

Residents in Cotter and Harrison will go to the polls today to decide sales tax proposals. In Cotter, residents are being asked to approve an extension of an existing 1% sales tax to finance improvements to the city’s sewer system. In Harrison, residents are being asked to approve two sales tax measures that would finance the construction of a community/aquatic center and fund the operation of the city’s park system. Voting for the Cotter election will be available at Wesley United Methodist Church between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Votes will be counted at Cotter City Hall once the polls close Tuesday night.

Final day of early voting for Harrison, Cotter special elections

Monday is the final day of early voting for special elections in Harrison and Cotter. In Cotter, residents are being asked to approve an extension of an existing 1% sales tax to finance improvements to the city’s sewer system. In Harrison, residents are being asked to approve two sales tax measures that would finance the construction of a community/aquatic center and fund the operation of the city’s park system. Early voting for the Cotter special election is available at the Baxter County Courthouse from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday. Early voting for the Harrison special election is available from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Boone County Election Center.

Singing to the Lord

âO sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things!â (Psalm 98:1) Because of the pandemic, our church has been limiting worship singing to one or two persons with microphones in a separate room. Itâs a way to prevent the spread of COVID through aerosol droplets, but I know that the entire congregation would love to be singing together. Hymns, spirituals, and songs of praise have always been a very important part of our worship. How do we sing to the Lord a new song when the opportunity to sing is missing? How do we sing to the Lord a new song when our concern for the well-being of others leads us to mask our mouths and quiet our voices? How do we sing a new song to the Lord when weâve been unable to gather with others to add our harmony to theirs?
