The facility consists of a tent and three trailers which house all equipment required to prepare and serve meals. Hunter Army Airfield opens temporary dining facility Hunter Army Airfield leadership wel­comed the arrival of a new temporary dining facility while the permanent facility undergoes a remodel, Jan. 21. The temporary structures are adja­cent to the dining facility and consist of a large tent and three trailers that offer all the necessary equipment and adequate space to provide Soldiers their meals and dining services. While there will be some minor changes, food service and quality will remain consis­tent with the brick and mortar facility.

Quarterly readiness fair offers valuable resources The Army Community Service Mobilization and Deployment division will host their first Quarterly Readiness Fair Jan. 26 from 2-8 p.m. in the Mower Gym parking lot on Fort Stewart. The Quarterly Readiness Fairs are designed to supply Soldiers and their Families with the tools and resources needed to be successful. During the event, Soldiers and Families will have the oppor­tunity to meet with Fort Stewart community part­ners to learn about the facilities and resources that are available to them while stationed on Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.

Retired general officer recalls lessons of war

After receiving his draft notice in 1966, Dan Petrosky began to fulfill his duty to serve his country in uniform. “My grandfather fought in WWI, my dad in WWII, and now it was my turn,” he said. The Columbus, Ohio, native served in the Army from June 1966 to January 2003 and retired as a lieutenant general after more than 37 years. His last position was chief of staff for the U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. He was a produce manager for a grocery store in his native Ohio when he got drafted. After basic training and advanced individual training, he became an assistant to a drill instructor and was teaching basic training. He was offered the opportunity to go to officer candidate school and he took it as an artilleryman. Later he and his buddies decided to go to flight school. He had basic flight instruction at Fort Wolters, Texas, and advanced flight instruction at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Georgia.
