The Hays County Commissioners Court approved a Request For Proposal for administrative services for a new Emergency Rental Assistance Program in its meeting Tuesday.
After receiving funding from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to provide financial rent and utility assistance, the county is soliciting proposals for a firm to manage the program. The program will provide financial assistance to income eligible households that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic including loss of employment.
Emergency Services Director Mike Jones announced a First Med Response COVID-19 vaccine clinic that will be operational starting in May where residents can receive first doses on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and second doses on Thursdays and Fridays.

On April 15, Judge Brian Morris nullified water-crossing permits in Montana that were granted for the Keystone XL, a major setback for the long-embattled tar sands oil pipeline. The ruling came just days after Keystone XL owner TC Energy, formerly known as TransCanada, obtained billions of dollars in subsidies from the Alberta government as global oil prices plummeted.
The oil and gas industry has taken notice. Seemingly just a ruling on Keystone XL the subject of opposition by the climate movement for the past decade the ruling could have far broader implications for the future of building water-crossing pipelines and utility lines.

Texas State Rep. Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood) presented several house bills for the 87th Texas Legislative Session in committees this week, one of which is heading to the house floor.
Zwiener presented House Bill 48 to the House International Relations and Economic Development Committee and House Bills 2344 and 2350 to the House Public Education Committee and House Natural Resources Committee, respectively.
All bills were received favorably, according to Zwiener’s Chief of Staff Victoria Godinez, and HB 2350, which would incentivize nature-based infrastructure projects through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, was voted out of committee and on to the house floor for debate.
