Scimago Ranking: JU chemistry dept secured countryâs top position

SAVAR, May 12, 2021 (BSS) â The Chemistry department of Jahangirnagar University has secured the top position at the Scimago World Rankings this year amongst the Bangladeshi public and private universities.
The ranking has made on the basis of research, innovation and societal activities of universities.
The Scimago Journal & Country Rank is a publicly available portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus database.
The Institutions Ranking of Scimago includes governments, health, universities, companies and non-profit organizations into consideration to make a combined list.
UGC allows online exams for public universities

The University Grants Commission today allowed public universities to hold exams online, keeping in mind that it would benefit students and also reduce session jams. We have taken the decision to allow public universities to hold their exams online, maintaining quality and international standards, UGC Chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah told The Daily Star after holding a meeting with vice chancellors of all public universities to discuss the process of holding online exams.
The universities will be able to take exams online after consulting with their academic councils or other bodies concerned, he added.
Admission tests of public universities would be delayed due to the country s coronavirus situation.
Earlier, the majority of the public universities had decided to hold honours first-year admission test for 2020-21 academic session in June-July.
Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad, an association of vice-chancellors of public universities, yesterday sat in a virtual meeting and discussed delaying of the entrance test.
Barishal University VC Prof Sadequl Arefin and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said holding of the test would be deferred. We [Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad] will sit for another meeting after Eid to fix the admission [test] dates of public universities, said Prof Farid.
