Cigarette butt likely caused grass fire in Stearns County

One of the many fires in Minnesota in recent days was like the result of a cigarette, according to the Stearns County Sheriff s Office.
A grass fire was reported Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. in the area of Hwy. 71, specifically in the west ditch of Hwy. 71 to the south of County Road 29 in Sauk Centre Township. The cause of the fire is believed to be a cigarette butt thrown from a vehicle, the sheriff s office said.

(KNSI) – A detached garage near Cold Spring became engulfed in fire and destroyed early Wednesday morning.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a passerby reported the fire just after 2 a.m. in the 17500-block of County Road 83 in Wakefield Township, about a mile west of Cold Spring.
The passerby alerted the homeowner, 69-year-old Patricia Stalboerger, of the fire and she was able to evacuate the residence.
The garage was about 20 feet from the main house. The cause of the fire is unknown.
The Cold Spring, Rockville, and Richmond Fire Departments all responded to the fire.

ST. CLOUD A garage is a total loss following a fire early Wednesday morning west of St. Cloud in Wakefield Township, according to a news release from the Stearns County Sheriff s Office.
Fire Destroys Detached Garage Near Cold Spring
WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP Fire destroyed a detached garage in Stearns County s Wakefield Township early Wednesday morning.
The Stearns County Sheriff s Office says a passerby saw the garage on fire in the 17000 block of County Road 83 near Rich Spring Golf Club at around 2:00 a.m. The passerby called 911 and alerted the homeowner,
Patricia Stalboerger.
Stalboerger evacuated her home because the garage was fully engulfed and is only 20 feet from her home.
Cold Spring, Richmond, and Rockville Fire Departments responded to contain the fire and put out the flames.
The cause of the blaze is unknown and the garage is considered a total loss.

A Tuesday afternoon grass fire south of Sauk Centre was like caused by a cigarette butt that was thrown from a vehicle, according to authorities.
The Stearns County Sheriff s Office said it received multiple calls reporting a fire in the west ditch of U.S. Highway 71, just south of the intersection with County Road 29, at about 3:47 p.m.
Deputies and Sauk Centre firefighters responded and worked to extinguish the flames.
The sheriff s office said about one-quarter of an acre was burned before the fire was put out.
An investigation is still ongoing but a cigarette butt is believed to be the cause.
