The prime minister announced the universal vaccination of adult inhabitants on 19 islands of the country, with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the plan entitled “Blue Freedom” for vaccination on islands with more than 10,000 inhabitants, while he stressed that the first large tranche of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the end of the month will be directed to the islands. He also stated that the goal is the universal vaccination of all the islands of Greece, with the exception of Crete, by the end of June. In Karditsa, Cyclone Ianos wiped out more than 13,000 livestock animals, while also destroying homes and property. The region’s stock farmers lost their herds overnight, and with them whatever financial security they had and every hope for the future. In the days after the disaster, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) launched an effort to help the affected farmers. In collaboration with the nonprofit organization New Agriculture New Generation, a close partner of SNF, initial contacts were established in the field to explore the best ways to provide assistance.
