Chesnee man sentenced 10-years for drug-related wreck

Jeremy L. Moss, 36, pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury.   A Chesnee man received a 10-year prison sentence today and 5 years of probation after he admitted to driving under the influence of drugs when he caused a wreck that critically injured a local woman. Circuit Judge Mark Hayes issued a 15-year prison sentence that was suspended to 10 years of service, 5 years of probation, a $5,100 fine and $3,345.42 in victim restitution. The wreck occurred on Oct. 19, 2020 when Moss crossed the centerline of Cooley Springs Road and hit a 37-year-old motorist traveling in the opposite direction.

Spartanburg Regional Foundation provides holiday meals to 10,000 employees

During the holiday season, Spartanburg Regional Foundation provided meals to 10,000 hospital associates in the hospital system to show its appreciation for all their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have never done anything like this, said Kristy Caradori, Spartanburg Regional Foundation executive director. It s been a difficult year for front-line folks. This is something we could do safely during the virus (COVID-19) and wanted staff to feel appreciated at this time. Two-thousand meals were delivered Tuesday to employees at Spartanburg Medical Center s parking lot at 101 E. Wood St., Spartanburg. Each boxed meal contained turkey, macaroni and cheese, green beans, pumpkin pie, rolls, and gravy. There was enough food in each box to feed up to six people.

Spartanburg development projects to keep up with in 2021

1. County courthouse and city/county municipal complex If you ve driven down Daniel Morgan Avenue lately, you ve probably seen the big crane and progress on the Spartanburg County courthouse project. The parking deck and nearby central energy plant will be completed by June 30, 2021, Britt said. After the courthouse is complete, a new joint city/county municipal building will be built as part of the same project funded by a penny sales tax. Britt said the courthouse and new municipal complex will be a good  adrenaline spurt for downtown merchants. It ll make it so much more walkable for our associates at the county and in the city. And it will be a big complex.

Driver charged in Asheville Highway fatal three-car accident

One of the drivers involved in the fatal three-car accident on Asheville Highway has been charged.  Trent Matthew Neal, 21, of Campobello, was charged with felony DUI with death. He is being held at Spartanburg County Detention Center. Troopers were called to the scene of the three-car accident at the intersection of Asheville Highway and Springfield Road at 9:32 a.m. Saturday.  According to South Carolina Highway Patrol reports, Neal ignored a traffic light and hit the vehicle of Khouanexay “Bill” Sivilay, 48, of Evergreen Drive, causing it to hit another car. Neal and Sivilay were both injured and transported to Spartanburg Medical Center. The other driver was unharmed. There were no additional passengers in any of the vehicles.

Chesnee teen dies after car crash, community grieves the loss

The Chesnee community is mourning the passing of a teen, who died from injuries received two days after a car crash. Toby Brooks Cantrell, 16, was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Dec. 21 when his car overturned on McSwain Road near Secondary 186, about 5 miles north of Chesnee. There were no other passengers. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Cantrell died at Spartanburg Medical Center at 4:37 p.m. on Dec. 23, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner s Office.  An autopsy is pending.  Cantrell, of Parris Bridge Road, was a junior at Chesnee High School. He was a member of the school s baseball and football teams, an honor student in the National Beta Club, and attended classes at the Swofford Career Center.
