On the blistery evening of Feb. 11, the Humble City Council approved a general joint election to be held May 1 for the purpose of electing a mayor and city council member places 1 and 2.
There are three contested positions, with six residents seeking the posts, two for the mayoral position and four for the council seats. The last day to file was Friday, Feb. 12. Former Council Member Norman Funderburk will face Arliss Bentley for the mayor’s job. Funderburk, who served on city council for almost seven years, resigned in mid-January shortly after current Mayor Merle Aaron announced he would retire and not seek reelection. Bentley, a retired educator, has run for office in Humble several times.

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Humble City Council held a special meeting to determine how to handle the Council Place 3 vacancy.
Former council member, Norman Funderburk, recently resigned his seat on the council and announced his mayoral candidacy.
The council unanimously decided to accept applications for citizens interested in serving. The council position awardee will serve a term set to end May 2022.
The council can choose to either make an appointment by majority vote or call a special election to fill the vacancy per the guidelines set forth in the City of Humble Home Rule Charter, Section 6, Vacancies on City Council.
Adela Holda named Tribune managing editor Written by Tribune Staff
Adela Jones Holda has been named the new managing editor of the Tribune.
Holda joined the Tribune in May of 2019, where she has worked as both an editorial assistant and, most recently, as an assistant editor in charge of managing and coordinating the Tribune columnists. Holda has a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
“I am thrilled to welcome Adela to our management team,” said Cynthia Calvert, owner of the Tribune. “From her first days with us, Adela has proven to be wonderfully efficient, smart and capable. We love her positive attitude and can-do spirit.”
