The mayor said Rahat Chatha would serve as a part-time municipal court judge - allowing current Judge Karen DeSoto to fill a full-time vacancy - and Paul Scalia would serve as a full-time judge, in a press release. If confirmed at the next City Council meeting on April 15, this would fill the vacancies created by the recent confirmations of Judge Carlo Abad and Judge Margaret Marley to the Hudson County Superior Court.

Hudson County View By John Heinis/Hudson County View Earlier today, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Arre, sentenced Jorge A. Rios, 35, of Jersey City, to 30 years in New Jersey state prison for the murder and sexual assault of Carolina Cano which occurred on March 24th, 2019 in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement. Arre sentenced Rios to 30 years for the first-degree murder charge, which carries a mandatory minimum of 30 years of parole ineligibility. He also sentenced him to 10 years with a required 85 percent for the charge of aggravated sexual assault, which is to run concurrent to the 30 year sentence. Upon release, the defendant is subject to parole supervision for life and Megan’s Law.
