Jersey City teacher charged with sexual assault of student ×
A Long Island man, 67, and teacher at the Infinity Institute in Jersey City has been charged and arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl, 11, who was his student. The victim, who is now 12, reported that the sexual assaults occurred at the public school in 2019.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, New York, was arrested at his home on March 16, at approximately 4 p.m.
Sunkara was charged with Sexual Assault, a crime of the second degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a crime of the second degree.
A 67-year-old teacher at a Jersey City school was charged in the sexual assault of a 11-year-old student, authorities said.
Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, New York, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his home for the assault, which happened in 2019, the Hudson County Prosecutor s Office said in a statement. The victim, a student of the Infinity Institute who is now 12, reported the sexual assault to authorities, the statement said.
Sunkara s name did not appear on the staff page of the school as of 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, while a link to contact Sunkara on the school s website was no longer valid. The Infinity Institute has students from sixth grade to 12th grade, according to the website.

Herbert Thomas, 55, of Jersey City, was arrested at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
Thomas has been charged with seven counts of third-degree theft by unlawful taking and three counts of fourth-degree theft by unlawful taking. His first court appearance is scheduled for April 6, 2021.
The investigation discovered that Thomas, on diverse dates between September 28th, 2020 and February 19th, 2021, at least 10 times fraudulently accessed EBT cards issued to welfare recipients to make ATM cash withdrawals of several thousand dollars.
