A hostage situation in North Bergen was resolved peacefully, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
The Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, in coordination with the North Bergen Police Department, safely de-escalated a hostage situation on the morning of Tuesday, June 1 at the Days Inn on Tonnelle Avenue. A New York City man, 21, was holding a woman against her will along with her two young children, according to authorities.
The suspect, Divine Torres, of Staten Island, was charged by the North Bergen Police Department with Kidnapping, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Assault, and Terroristic Threats. Additional charges against Torres are pending in New York City.
